Oneplus has rolled out some spectacular phones in the past. The outstanding quality, software, hardware - everything has charmed the smartphone-savvy world. The latest in the offering is the Oneplus 5 - which has been launched in India 22nd June, 2017 in Mumbai. The company has launched two important variants - 6GB RAM and 64GB storage version for Rs. 32,000 and for 8GB RAM and 128GB storage version at Rs. 37,999. There are also two color options available to choose from which include Midnight Black and Slate Grey. The main feature of both variants is that they will come with Paytm pre-installed. The new OnePlus 5 has big shoes to fill - as they are expected while being compared to previous ones, which managed to undercut the competition on price and beat them on design.

Its USP which lies in the dual camera – is not actually impressive. It is worth mentioning that the OnePlus 5 uses the same display as the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T with subtle improvements in terms of color reproduction. It features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D curved glass for protection. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC clocked at 2.45GHz. There is also an Adreno 540 GPU for better graphics. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with OxygenOS layered above. There is a fingerprint sensor embedded under the home button on the front and for charging the smartphone packs a Type-C port.

Overall, the build of the OnePlus 5 is solid but there are some weak spots. To say the back of the OnePlus 5 looks like an iPhone 7 Plus would be an understatement. In gaming and when using demanding apps it performs as well or better than the competition. In fact, it can be even called as the smoothest, most consistently high-performing Android experience possible. With 60 minutes of gaming, and around five hours of music - it lasted just over 28 hours between charges with no power-saving modes activated. A 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection saves the display from damages. A new feature of this display is that it supports sRGB and DCI-P3 color standards. The dimensions of the device are 154.2 mm X 74.1 mm X 7.25 mm and it weighs 153 grams.

There are also a lot of connectivity options in the device. These are 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS along with A-GPS. One major reason why OnePlus is popular is that it has hit a sweet spot between pricing and hardware. The main draw of the OnePlus 5 is the top-of-the-line hardware, which rivals most phones. The final verdict will be of the public, when it would hit the stores for sale on 27th June and onwards.
